खरमास सोमवार 15 मार्च से पूर्ण रूप से शुरू हो गया है. इसके साथ ही शुभ कार्यों, मांगलिक कार्यों पर महीने भर का विराम लग जायेगा, जो अगले महीने 14 अप्रैल (बुधवार) को सूर्य के मेष राशि में प्रवेश करने के साथ ही समाप्त हो जायेगा. इस दिन से शुभ मांगलिक कार्य शुरू होंगे.
खरमास में पितृ पिंडदान का खास महत्व है. खरमास में भगवान विष्णु की विधिपूर्वक पूजा-पाठ करने से अत्यंत प्रसन्न होते हैं और जातक यहां सब प्रकार के सुख भोगकर मृत्यु के बाद भगवान के दिव्य गोलोक में निवास करता है. धार्मिक अनुष्ठान अगर खरमास में किया जाये, तो अतुल्य पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है.

पंडित राकेश झा ने पांचांगों के हवाले से बताया कि बनारसी पंचांग के अनुसार 14 की रात 7:58 बजे सूर्य मीन राशि में प्रवेश किया. सूर्य ही संक्रांति और लग्न के राजा माने जाते हैं. ज्योतिष के मुताबिक खरमास में कोई भी शुभ मांगलिक आयोजन नहीं होंगे. जैसे कि विवाह, नये घर में गृह प्रवेश, नये वाहन की खरीद, संपत्तियों का क्रय विक्रय, मुंडन संस्कार जैसे अनेक शुभ कार्य वर्जित होते है.
सूर्य, गुरु की राशि धनु एवं मीन राशि में प्रवेश करता है तो इससे गुरु का प्रभाव समाप्त हो जाता है. खासकर इस समय विवाह संस्कार तो बिल्कुल नहीं किये जाते हैं क्योंकि विवाह के लिए सूर्य और गुरु दोनों को मजबूत होना चाहिए.
ऐसे तय किये जाते हैं शुभ लग्न और मुहूर्त |
शादी के शुभ लग्न व मुहूर्त निर्णय के लिए वृष, मिथुन, कन्या, तुला, धनु एवं मीन लग्न में से किन्हीं एक का होना जरूरी है. वहीं, नक्षत्रों में से अश्विनी, रेवती, रोहिणी, मृगशिरा, मूल, मघा, चित्रा, स्वाति,श्रवणा, हस्त, अनुराधा, उत्तरा फाल्गुन, उत्तरा भद्र व उत्तरा आषाढ़ में किन्हीं एक जा रहना जरूरी है.
अति उत्तम मुहूर्त के लिए रोहिणी, मृगशिरा या हस्त नक्षत्र में से किन्ही एक की उपस्थिति रहने पर शुभ मुहूर्त बनता है. बताया गया कि यदि वर और कन्या दोनों का जन्म ज्येष्ठ मास में हुआ हो तो उनका विवाह ज्येष्ठ में नहीं होगा. तीन ज्येष्ठ होने पर विषम योग बनता है और ये वैवाहिक लग्न में निषेद्ध है.
