सूर्यकुमार यादव को जब इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ चौथे टी20 मुकाबले में प्लेइंग इलेवन में शामिल किया गया था तब सबकी नजर उन पर टिकी हुई थी। फिर उनकी बल्लेबाजी का टर्म भी आया और उन्होंने किसी को निराश नहीं किया। टीम की जरूरत के मुताबिक सूर्यकुमार काफी अच्छी बल्लेबाजी कर रहे थे और लय में नजर आ रहे थे। वो 31 गेंदों पर 3 छक्के और 4 चौकों की मदद से 57 रन बना चुके थे कि, तीसरे अंपायर के एक खराब फैसले से ना सिर्फ उनकी पारी का अंत हो गया बल्कि क्रिकेट फैंस का दिल भी टूट गया।
मैच की पहली पारी का 14वां ओवर सैम कुर्रन फेंक रहे थे और इस ओवर की दूसरी गेंद पर सूर्यकुमार एक शॉट खेला जिसके बाद गेंद को डेविड मलान ने लपक लिया। इसके बाद फील्ड अंपायर ने आउट का सॉफ्ट सिग्नल दे दिया और फैसला तीसरे अंपायर के पास गया। टीवी रिप्ले में साफ लग रहा था कि, गेंद फील्ड से टच कर रहा है, लेकिन तीसरे अंपायर ने भी आउट का फैसला सुना दिया और उन्हें पवेलियन लौटना पड़ा।

अंपायर के इस खराब फैसले के बाद पूर्व ओपनर बल्लेबाज वीरेंद्र सहवाग ने ट्वीट कर थर्ड अंपायर के इस फैसले पर एक तस्वीर के जरिए आपत्ति जताई।
वहीं वीवीएल लक्ष्मण ने भी इसे गलत फैसला करार दिया। उन्होंने ट्वीट करते हुए लिखा कि, वो कैसे आउट थे। जब आप टॉप क्लास तकनीक के बाद भी श्योर नहीं हैं कि, कैच लिया या नहीं तो आप फील्ड अंपायर के सॉफ्ट सिग्नल के साथ कैसे जा सकते हैं। मुझे लगता है कि, इस नियम को बदलने या फिर से इस पर विचार करने की जरूरत है।
