National Women’s Day in India: भारत में हर वर्ष 13 फरवरी को राष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। लेकिन, बहुत ही कम लोगों को पता है कि 13 फरवरी को ही महिला दिवस क्यों मनाया जाता है। दरअसल, इसी दिन प्रमुख स्वतंत्रता सेनानी व कवयित्री सरोजिनी नायडू का जन्म हुआ था। उन्हें अपनी कविताओं के कारण ‘भारत कोकिला’ के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। सरोजिनी नायडू ने देश की स्वतंत्रता के लिए भारतीय राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई थी।

सरोजिनी नायडू का जन्म 13 फरवरी, 1879 को हुआ था। सरोजिनी बचपन से ही बहुत बुद्धिमान थीं। उन्होंने 12 वर्ष की छोटी सी उम्र में ही कविताएं लिखनी शुरू कर दी थी। वे न सिर्फ एक स्वतंत्रता सेनानी थीं, बल्कि उन्होंने महिलाओं के अधिकारों के लिए भी बहुत संघर्ष किया था। उन्हें भारत की पहली महिला राजयपाल होने का भी गौरव प्राप्त है।
जानें कब हुई महिला दिवस की शुरुआत
सरोजिनी नायडू वर्ष 1914 में पहली बार महात्मा गांधी से मिलीं और देश के लिए खुद को समर्पित कर दिया। वे शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के दौरान ही राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन में शामिल हो गईं। महात्मा गांधी, जवाहरलाल नेहरू सहित तमाम बड़े नेता उनकी नेतृत्व क्षमता के कायल थे और उनका सम्मान करते थे। उन्हें साल 1925 में कांग्रेस का अध्यक्ष बनाया गया। उन्हें 1928 में ब्रिटिश सरकार द्वारा भारत में प्लेग महामारी के दौरान अपने कार्यों के लिए कैसर-ए-हिंद से सम्मानित किया गया था। वे 1932 में भारत के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में दक्षिण अफ्रीका गईं। 2 मार्च, 1949 को लखनऊ में अपने कार्यालय में कार्य करने के दौरान दिल का दौरा पड़ने से उनका निधन हो गया। सरोजिनी नायडू की 135वीं जयंती के अवसर पर, यानी 13 फरवरी 2014 को देश में राष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत की गई।

सरोजिनी नायडू अपने साहित्यिक योगदान के लिए पूरे विश्व में प्रसिद्ध हैं। उनकी कुछ कविताएं पाठ्यक्रम में भी शामिल की गई हैं। उनके साहित्यिक रचनाओं में गोल्डन थ्रेशोल्ड, द बर्ड ऑफ टाइम, द मैजिक ट्री, द विजार्ड मास्क, द सेप्ट्रेड फ्लूट: सांग्स ऑफ इंडिया, द इंडियन वीवर्स आदि शामिल हैं।
