Over 70 sellers become crorepatis after 3 days of Flipkart’s festive season sales – Report

The first three days of Flipkart’s festive season sales have made fortunes of at least 70 sellers who have become crorepatis due to high sales volume. Around 10,000 sellers have also become lakhpatis.

Flipkart confirmed in a news report that the first three days of its Big Billion Days (BBD) festive sale has been good for sellers on its platform.

It said that over 3 lakh sellers on its platform, of which 60 percent belong to tier-2 and beyond cities, paved for customers to shop in the first three days of the BBD. Flipkart said that its seller base reach has expanded by almost 20 percent in the year and totals up to 3,000 pin codes.

Flipkart also said that sellers have witnessed sharp growth this year and that it equals the growth that they saw during the six days of the event in 2019.

The report, however, noted that essential products formed a bulk of the demand. Some of the product categories that saw higher sales were household products and personal care.

It is worth noting that Flipkart Wholesale’s tier-2 and tier-3 cities accounted for almost half the sales.

Meanwhile, in the first 72 hours of the BBD, Flipkart noted a 60 percent increase in digital payment transactions in comparison to non-festive event days.

The rise in sales is not only good news for Flipkart but also sellers on its platform who are expected to benefit as more people shop online amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Before the festive season started, Flipkart said there were more than 36 million new application downloads by customers across the country. This indicates that smaller cities are participating more in this year’s festive sales.
