Chief of the Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi paid a deeply symbolic visit to his alma mater, Sainik School Rewa, reinforcing the Indian Army’s cherished values of discipline, honour, and selfless service.

The COAS, who studied at the institution from 1973 to 1981, laid a wreath at the school memorial to honour fallen soldiers and alumni. He then reviewed a crisp Guard of Honour presented by the smartly turned-out cadets, their bearing reflecting the high standards of military ethos instilled at Sainik Schools.

Walking through the familiar corridors that once shaped his character, Gen Dwivedi interacted with faculty and cadets. He shared vivid memories of his formative years and urged the young boys to embrace the core traditions of the Indian Army: unwavering integrity, rigorous discipline, and an unyielding commitment to the nation.

Sainik School Rewa, established in 1962, has long served as a cradle for future military leaders. The institution’s rigorous blend of academic excellence and military-style training continues to produce officers who uphold the Army’s timeless values of duty, courage, and loyalty. Gen Dwivedi’s journey, from these very grounds to becoming the Chief of India’s largest fighting force, exemplifies how Sainik Schools nurture the human foundation of the Army’s professional excellence.

In his address, the COAS emphasised that true leadership in the Indian Army is built on character forged through consistent discipline and ethical conduct. He encouraged the cadets to internalise the Army’s rich traditions of camaraderie, resilience in adversity, and placing service before self.

The visit highlighted the critical role Sainik Schools play in sustaining the Indian Army’s proud heritage while preparing the next generation for modern challenges. As the Army advances towards greater indigenisation and operational readiness, institutions like Sainik School Rewa remain vital in developing officers who combine professional competence with the timeless ethos that defines the Indian Army.

General Dwivedi’s homecoming was not merely a personal milestone but a powerful reaffirmation of the enduring traditions that continue to shape India’s military leadership.
