नीति शास्त्र में बताया गया है कि स्त्रियों के व्यक्तित्व और सभाव को समझना मुश्किल है। आचार्य चाणक्य कहते हैं कि महिलायें किस वक्त खुशी और किस वक्त दुखी हैं, यह जानना कठिन काम है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि स्त्रियों के स्वभाव को समझना दुनिया के सबसे मुश्किल कामों में से एक है। चाणक्य ने नीति शास्त्र में कुछ ऐसी ही आदतें बताई है, जिनसे महिलाओं के स्वाभाव और व्यक्तित्व को समझना आसान होता है।

 धार्मिक कार्यों में रूचि- आचार्य चाणक्य कहते हैं कि जिन स्त्रियों की धार्मिक कार्यों में रूचि होती है, उनका मन शांत होता है। ऐसी महिलाएं तरक्की या सफलता पाने के लिए एकाग्र होती हैं। नीति शास्त्र के अनुसार, ऐसी स्त्रियों को दूसरों की सफलता या असफलता परेशान नहीं करती है। वह सिर्फ अपने जीवन के उद्देश्य में मग्न होती हैं।

♦ आलसी- आचार्य चाणक्य कहते हैं जो स्त्रियां आलस्य से भरी होती हैं, उन्हें जीवन में सफलता हासिल करना मुश्किल होता है। नीति शास्त्र के अनुसार, ऐसी महिलाओं को सफलता पाने में कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ता है। कहते है इन्हें परिवार के सदस्य खूब प्रेम देते हैं लेकिन समाज में मान-सम्मान नहीं मिलता है।

♦ अनुशासन में रहना- आचार्य चाणक्य कहते हैं कि जो स्त्रियां अनुशासन में रहती हैं वह जल्दी सफलता हासिल करती हैं। कहते हैं कि ऐसी महिलायें दूसरे के लिए प्रेरणा होती हैं। नीति शास्त्र के अनुसार, अपने सपनों और कार्यों को पूरा करने के कारण इस स्वभाव की महिलाओं को परिवार के सदस्यों के साथ समाज में भी खूब मान-सम्मान मिलता है।

♦ ईर्ष्या करने वाली- माना जाता है कि जिन महिलाओं में ईर्ष्या का भाव होता है, वह चालाकी से खुद तरक्की हासिल करती हैं। कहते हैं कि ऐसी स्त्रियां दूसरों के सफलता के रास्ते में बाधाएं डालती हैं। आचार्य चाणक्य कहते हैं कि ऐसी महिलाओं पर विश्वास करने से बचना चाहिए। क्योंकि समय आने पर आप भी विश्वासघात का शिकार हो सकते हैं।
