Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone
else. Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high
on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap. There may have
been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and
transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s. It prospers to this
day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet. Until last
year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair
backstreet. But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors were opened to
the great unwashed.

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty
– dining room, lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular
gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a
loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.

Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty,
clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.

We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.

We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma that had she
burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we
would have barely blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as
crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are
a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises
them to the sublime. Only the price, at just under £150 each,
is ridiculous. But there are few better dishes on earth.
I’d eat this every day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously.

That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never enough.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but
less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie
and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element not
present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved
how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’ 

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the
movie, said Todd Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going
to bomb’ while filming

He said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made. It has no plot.
We would sit there, me and these other guys and I’d go, ‘What the f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going
to bomb, man.’ It’s not even hate-watchable.

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media
after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture

Todd Phillips‘ sequel has bombed, raking in just under $40 million at the domestic box office, and receiving
the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history.

Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka
Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a
role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival
last month.

‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that
people don’t love it after the response it received
from critics before it premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com. 

‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for the DC comics fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects
they can roll out as they want to move on this from as quickly as possible.’

It comes after lead star Lady Gaga was left ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker:

But despite the lacklustre reception from fans, a
second source claimed she is not letting it deter her from returning
to the big screen, with the singer said to be eyeing up a Quentin Tarantino movie.

‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much a bomb,’ they said. 

‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially since the first film was
such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.

‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film.
Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition. 

‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is presented, it is a bucket list
moment for her to be involved.’

Former first lady Melania Trump said she was completely
comfortable with posing nude during her modeling days. 

In her memoir Melania, which was released Tuesday,
she recounts how her nude photos were put on the cover of The New York
Post during the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each
major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme
— abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.

In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated
ballot referendums.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President
Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers
in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to
inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution —
and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions
imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”

She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional
protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several states where
abortion is banned or severely limited.

Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having
problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.

“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.

– ‘Abortion is murder’ –

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that
it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old
college student.

“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he conceded, “but that’s very small.”

He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico
during the Biden-Harris administration.

“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he said.

“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”

So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local
law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of
having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved
to the border police who work for the federal government.

“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez
said.

– Mixed impact –

The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity
to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race
for the White House that activists hope.

Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona,
with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.

Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both
appear likely to pass.

So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.

Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights
and to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.

Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also
raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.

The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher
language on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.

The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing
of the border Biden ordered in recent months.

The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

So it’s kind of a complicated process, but here’s the two-sentence version: Lightning is an electric current that takes the path of least resistance from the
base of a cloud to the ground. Since the air it travels through is not uniform—variations
in things like temperature, humidity, and pollutants determine how resistant air is to the charge—the lightning has
to zig and zag to stay on that path.

John, 51, and his Thai wife Pookie, 25, have slammed Thai police for allegedly treating them unfairly while investigating
an alleged assault in a mall in Phuket, Thailand.

The couple reportedly bumped into Chinese woman Zhang Yise and her
mother Wu Kuiyun at the Central Phuket Floresta mall on August 19,
sparking a fierce row that later led to police complaints and litigation.

Footage filmed by Zhang shows her following the pair out of the building as both parties hurled expletives at
each other.

John warned the Chinese ladies not to touch
him or he will ‘knock her out’ as a furious Zhang tried to stop him from leaving the mall.

In an August 30 press conference, the British man wearing a hoodie, shades, and

order us a GrabTaxi because we were about to go home and then this Chinese lady bumps
into me. I turn, I said ‘be careful’, then the younger Chinese
lady said ‘you hit my mum, you hit my mum, fuck you, fuck you, I
call police!’ So I said ok call police. But it made me worry a little bit, how is this police?
So we wanted to leave.’

John claimed he ‘swept Zhang away’ with his arm when she allegedly lunged towards Pookie, prompting Wu Kuiyun to then charge at him and punch him.

He said Zhang fell down when he sidestepped her as she was running at him.

He continued: ‘I had two very aggressive Chinese women attacking me, trying to get around me to get my
wife. I’m just trying to defend myself and protect my wife.
Everything I did was to create distance. If I wanted to hurt somebody, they would be in the hospital.’

He criticised the police and described their investigation as ‘unfair and
not balanced’.

One of the Chinese women can be heard shouting:
‘You stay here! You kill me! You touched me!
Stop here, you cannot go, I’ll kill you!’

Meanwhile, John warned the Chinese ladies not to touch him or he will ‘knock them out’
as a furious Zhang tried to stop him from leaving

John said that he and his wife were cooperative with
police, but still felt they were treated unfairly.

They were allegedly being pressured to settle and apologise as the Chinese side was reportedly influential and well-connected.

He said: ‘I don’t feel safe. We had to move rooms many many times.
These people are very connected. We don’t
feel safe, so when this situation is finished with the court, me and my wife are
going to leave Thailand.’

In response to the press conference, Zhang presented video evidence which she claimed disproved John’s statements.
She said she had tried to apologise to the couple after bumping into them, but John started cursing at
her and insulting her.

Police Lieutenant General Surapong Thanomjit, Commander of Region 8 Police, said police have
gathered evidence and that both sides will be heard in the court
trial.

He said: ‘No party should present only their advantages and criticise the other side, nor
should they excessively criticise the police officers’ actions beyond
reality.’

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday signalled a slower than anticipated U.S.

roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device, a choice analysts said
was positive for its competitors in the short term.

The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more than two thirds of its net revenues to come from “smoke-free” products by 2030,
up from 50% in 2025, as it tries to transform its image from a cigarette purveyor to a driver
of the shift to healthier alternatives.

Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry into the U.S., the world’s largest market
for nicotine products, and had been expecting it from May 2024 next year.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring lobbyists across a
host of key U.S. states ahead of the launch.

Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch in four cities in two
unnamed U.S. states from 2024, but a national launch would only come after PMI receives approval to sell the
latest version, known as IQOS ILUMA.

The company was planning to apply for approval in October and expected it from
2025, he continued.

“We need to warm up the tyres,” he said of the initial
launch, which would help PMI fine tune its approach.

A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases, he continued, adding launching in 10 states in the first year would make sense.

Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.
“now looks delayed until ILUMA,” Owen Bennett, equity analyst at Jefferies, said in a note,
adding this was a positive for PMI’s rivals.

Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products was no longer a priority.
It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net
revenues to come from sales of such products by 2025.

Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand ZYN, Olczak said, adding
it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco companies operating outside of nicotine.

PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue
and earnings per share, and ambitious volume targets for IQOS and ZYN.

ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S. would help drive an expected $2 billion in revenues there
in 2024, even before IQOS ILUMA, executives
said.
